'Allentown Jail' was Karen's follow up to her International hit 'Nobody's Child' in November 1969. It was a song that had been recorded by many artists including,from the 50's, Jo Stafford and Lita Roza with The Springfields and The Seekers cutting it during the 60's.

Now I've had an entirely healthy obsession with this super and totally underrated singer for 40 years now.My obsession is vindicated by this,to me,definitive version of this beautiful song.

This is a good rendition I have never heard of Karen Young .. I remember this song as a 78rpm at the house of my uncle in about 1960 by Jo Stafford

I think you're right.Confusingly,there are 3 Karen Youngs.The one featured here is English (born 1946).The American 'Hot Shot' Karen Young born 1951 sadly died in 1991 and a Canadian Folk/Jazz singing Karen Young also born 1951.

I know Karen personally but never knew she did anything like this. I nearly fell over when I heard it. Very impressed.
