Written by: Steve Walsh, Steve Morse and Bob Ezrin

Artist: Kansas

Album: In The Spirit Of Things

Released in: 1988

Lyrics:

Have you ever seen a miracle you couldn't doubt or imitate?

What's it really worth to you to shake the holy hand of fate?

Well, I did what I could to make ends meet

Been a gunrunner and a medicine man

In a Kansas town I was a rainmaker, there the hand of fate got out of hand

Rainmaker, rainmaker, save this one horse town

Rainmaker, pray to Heaven

From the Flint Hills, the land was cracked and dried

Thirsty streets in misery

I took the sign down that said medicine man

Put one up that said rainmaker - that was me

So, the townspeople gave me money up front

To light a fire - pray and dance around

Tell them it'd rain, so, they'd all go to bed

And I'd make my break clean out of town

But I started this dance and a storm kicked up

The sky went black from coast to coast

It was too late to stop, it was to late to pray

I had summoned down the Holy Ghost

Oh, the searing wind and the clouds of dust

And Hell came raining down

What came out of me and the powers that be

Was the last of that one horse town

I saw KANSAS tour "In The Spirit of Things" at the syria mosque in Pittsburgh, 1989... The show was fantastic and this song was quite Haunting in nature..... Simply awesome.................!!!!

The best song from the very first Kansas album I ever listened to, and I fell in love with it: I still love the album, but I wouldn't know if I'd call it my favourite Kansas one, they did some pretty good things before! different, for sure, and in a very good way

Oh cool, I didn't know that. Gonna check out that movie ^^ I wanna take this opportunity to thank you for uploading all your great material. If it weren't for your fantastic Kansas music videos, I probably wouldn't be where I am now :-)

Actually, the inspiration for this song came from the 1956 film "The Rainmaker" starring Burt Lancaster and Kathryn Hepburn. "Burt Lancaster all but bursts from the screen with his arm waving portrayal of a confident artist who works the drought ridden Southwest, promising to bring rain for a flat fee of a hundred bucks."

If this album had support from the label some of these songs would'be been absolute hits. The entire album is great!!

One of Kansas's best albums! Many songs on this album could have been big hits if the label would've supported the band and tour!!

Yeah, either that or more like Somewhere To Elsewhere.

I kind of understand how those three albums, Drastic Measures,Power, and In the Spirit really strayed away from the 70s sound, mainly due to the lack of a violin...then David Ragsdale comes along and not only proves himself to be able to play the songs, he DOMINATES them. Freaks of Nature is one of my favorite albums and it's really what I think 'modern Kansas' sounds like. If Kansas were to release a new album in the near future, it would be very 'Freaks' -esque.

You know, I love ALL of Kansas' albums, but you've gotta admit, except for Drastic Measures, In The Spirit Of Things really is their "worst" one...

Steve Walsh himself would probably take that as a giant 'fuck you' seeing how In The Spirit of Things is his favorite peice of work.....

Just love this great song. Walsh' singing is awesome and of course the maestro behind - Bob Ezrin .
