From my garage to Billy's house to Red Rocks - June 8, 2011 Jethro Tull with special guest Kansas. This HD video focuses on the Kansas bass player and front man Billy Greer because he's playing the solid zebrawood 4 string custom bass guitar I made for him. I shot this with a Nikon 5100 DSLR. My camera work is not best but the amount of fun I had that night makes up for it! Plus, he gives me a cool nod of recognition at 4:55.

Thanks! Before my bass Billy was playing a black Fender Custom Shop short scale. I see it from time to time in the background as his backup now.

I just saw them the other night in Englewood, NJ and he's still playing the bass. My wife was asking me what it was and my best guess was a Fender Custom Shop. Congrats to you.

This is the only bass of mine he has and he's been using it in shows pretty much exclusivly since May 2011. It's never been used in a DVD.

Phil Ehart's drum tech ~ Eric Holmquist gets a lot of face and head-bob time on this one. Bet he loves it.

I think you were mistaken. He was nodding at me at 4:55. :)

@STEVEMOR909 If he were playing the bass I made I would have ;-)

Some zoom shots on Steve Walsh might have been a good thing!

@fraroc EVer heard anything from his solo CD?Sounds very much like early 70's Kansas.

@davidroygaines I mean Robby wasn't bad, but he's more of a frontman/ singer that can play violin. David is a true violinist. He takes the violin very seriously. And he's not to shabby of a guitarist either! He nails the rhythm parts on Carry On Wayward Son very well! I can't imagine Kansas without a violinist let alone accept that they toured for about 6 years without one!! Rags didn't come into the picture until 1991.

@davidroygaines Besides Kerry Livgren's songwriting, David Ragsdale coming to the band was the best thing to ever happen to Kansas.

@RCAvhstape I thought it was a good story. In fact, I haven't come back to earth yet! I'm gonna print out your comment and frame it on the wall :-)

So you made that bass and Billy Greer of Kansas is playing it live, and you're there recording it from the front row? Epic win, dude! That's got to be one of the best rock fan stories ever.

David ragsdale is quite possibly the best violinist in the world.

@tomphotery1 I see you shot some Jethro Tull - Cool. Looks like your seats were just below ours. We were row 17.

@tomphotery1 That wasn't a seat - I had a Kansas photo pass and was up on the rail with the security guys. The rule there for shooting Jethro Tull there was Do NOT Shoot Jethro Tull.
