I'm a little surprised Steve was talked into singing two Elefante songs..I guess he was finally willing to acknowledge E's role in keeping the band going..

Yeah, this is about more than upper range....just hideous pitch issues, not to mention all the ad-libbed garbage. Maybe just a bad night for ol' Steve. And the cheesy seugue into Play the Game is just....well, cheesy.

changin vocalists causes all kinds of problems, a different singer will throw off the other players, they are a team, just look at FOREIGNER,and their NEW SINGER,he has heart but no cigar,ALWAYS DANCE WITH THE ONE WHO BROUGHT YA, STEVE'S VOICE ON A BAD DAY IS STILL RIGHT ON TIME,and they know it,now you do

Interesting medley of a couple of Kansas great songs originally recorded when Steve Walsh was not in Kansas, he had another band called Streets. They only released 2 albums. Anyway, so some of you here are saying Walsh has lost some highs in his voice. Yeah, a little, but then you sound ridiculous saying they should get Rob Thomas or Chris Daughtry to replace him. Neither of those guys is known for singing high.

Great 4 part harmonies.

There are other videos on here from the last decade with Steve doing the vocals for this song where he sounds 10 times better. I've always wanted to hear him do "Play the Game" and this one at his full power. I think I got a taste of that.

The lead vocal sucks. Kid yourselves all you want but Walsh was horrible then. Got some of his talent back when he got clean but never even 75% what he once was. Unless Rob Thomas or Daughty are willing to join the Kansas tour(yeah right) you just have to face the reality that this is a band with an average singer.

What sites do you use. I know of a handful that are great but I'm not sure what if any FON shows that they might have. Tell what you're aware of and I'll see if I can give you the links for a couple more.

@rickyon the only thing that ruins this pref for me is the douche doing the sound mixing that cut out David's violin and guitar! do you know of any complete "Freaks of Nature" tour boots besides this one and Cadott 1995? (Which I have a DVD of) even if its just audio?

I'll have a look through some bootleg forums to see what I can find!

@Gregsynthbootlegs I really hope I can come across a bootleg from 1984 when Elefante sang this song. That would be cool!

I've always wanted to hear Steve sing this in the later 80s (there's a version of Play The Game Tonight from 1989 that sounds great). Maybe Rickyon could help us out!

@Gregsynthbootlegs The one from Cadott 1995 is pretty decent too, but it was removed from youtube :( Once again, in that one Steve's voice sucked, but the band was on fire.

@MELONHEAD8458 A Nam vet? IDK about that...They only got started when Vietnam ended. And it's also nice to see another Kansas fan like myself! Fight Fire with Fire is one badass song! I even used it in my video tribute to Wolverine! How about that violinist David Ragsdale? Aint he the most talented fiddle player? and he's an pretty good guitar player too!

Yeah, I listened to that one--and it really is good!

@Gregsynthbootlegs Probably the 2002 Device Voice Drum version.

Ah, I was just messing around (this one is probably the worst version)! What is the best version with Walsh anyway?
