And the "Remember the 60s and 70s" series continues with Kai Warner who brings us back to the year 1968. It seems hard to believe today, but back in the sixties even crooners could score hits. Engelbert Humperdinck, the British singer whose career started in Belgium (the video for "Dommage Dommage" was taped in Zeebrugge), picked up the song "Quando M'Innamoro" at the San Remo Festival and had English lyrics added to it. The choice couldn't have been better and soon Humperdinck entered the charts with his "A Man Without Love". The song was especially successful again in Belgium - I can personally confirm that this was the case. I will never forget how, as a 10 year old boy, I was lying in my bed on a saturday night when suddenly - in the middle of the night - the sound of music woke me up. It was Engelbert Humperdinck singing his then latest hit and the record was being played on the jukebox of the nearby pub. I then saw images of dancing people in my mind - as I knew that all our neighbours would be slowdancing to this great music. Sometimes the people in the pub played this song over and over again - each time turning the volume up - and so .... sleeping was no longer on the agenda ;-) But your humble servant didn't mind that at all .... The ears barely visible just above the sheets, this music loving guy was enjoying this beautiful melody and secretly thanked the dancers in the pub for "sharing" the music with the rest of the neighbourhood ........
