I didn't know she sang this song before Gene Kelly did! She looks so beautiful and fresh here! Love that gorgeous gown that she's wearing! Her voice is wonderful and youthful. What a great performance!

Most people know the song "Singin' In the Rain" from the 1952 Gene Kelly film, but it actually goes back further than that, having been sung and recorded multiple times by various artists before then, including by Judy Garland in the film Little Nellie Kelly (1940). It was written by Arthur Freed (lyrics) and Nacio Herb Brown (music) and published in 1929. (According to Wikipedia, it's been claimed to have been performed as early as 1927.) IMO, Judy Garland's version gives Gene Kelly's version a run for its money, even though it is the latter that is more widely recognized and was listed No. 3 on AFI's 100 Years...100 Songs.

Never realised Judy sang it 12 years before Gene did, thanks for the load, love old films and interesting to hear her doing it in a different style to Gene.

You can tell she had fake teeth or something on the bottoms bc it gave her a bit of a lisp thing but she's gorgeous I wish MGM didn't treat her like they did everyone has to grow up & i feel so bad for what she went through. imagine how happy she would've been without mgm's crap.
