That's what a real singer should sound like....without electronic enhancements.

Someday, somebody who looks and sounds a little bit like Judy, should do a mash-up of this song and Somewhere Over the Rainbow.

Judy Garland really did have the voice of an angel and could melt your heart with her beautiful voice. Here her vulnerability and sweetness are very much in evidence when she sings. But not only did she sing with great feeling and emotion, she had brilliant technical ability. This is a slow number and yet her immaculate timing and control are out of this world - rather than temptingly rushing through the song, she holds each note for all its worth. Remarkable still, she had expertly switched from singing the song in a vaudevillian, rambunctious way beforehand in the film to the more tender, softer style that you can hear in this video. (Proving that she could sing on more than one level). An exceptionally talented and beautiful lady.

Thanks for sharing this with such wonderful sound and picture quality. I love her body language with her hands and posture, she looks so vulnerable here.

I just realized this sounded like the middle part of Fantasie Impromptu 66.

One of the most way-out and standout attributes that Ms Judy Garland - a star with magnitude and sleight - is considerably-endowed with is her authentic-and-majestic vocal strength. We can truly feel the palpitation and the predilection of her heart in her voice and the distinction and the disposition of her song in this musical scene. Her lugubrious rendition of Mr Joseph McCarthy / Mr Harry Carroll's contemplative-and-stimulative classic "I'm Always Chasing Rainbows" is in all respects effusive and persuasive. We can't help but get completely carried away with this tear-jerking sequence whereas the dejected vaudeville pianist father ( superbly played by Mr Charles Winninger ) had to desist backing up his daughter in her Ziegfeld dry run. Ms Garland had markedly played one of her earliest lofty-and-weighty mature roles - in this one of MGM's greatest musical extravaganzas of all time. She's one-of-a-kind.

One of the greatest singers, ever. She had a vulnerability and sensitivity in her voice that few singers possess.

I just love how everyone looks up in awe when she starts singing. Like, "Holy hell, that voice is not coming out of her." And Lana Turner is just trying her damn hardest not to cry.

Perfect legato singing. I think she was better than she even realized.
