JFK had just been killed if I remember and they didn't want her to perform this.

Very poignant. If anyone in showbiz ever deserved to be a legend in their own lifetime, it was Judy Garland. She's a superstar in every manner.

I often feel that Judy Garland was a force of nature channeling raw emotion. I can't help feeling it cost her to give so much emotionally.

Judy and President Kennedy were close friends. When Kennedy was assassinated on 11/23/63 Judy wanted to do a show in tribute to our slain leader. Jackie, however, did not want any tributes on TV. Judy had to wait several weeks before she was able to sing "Battle Hymn" in honor of the late President Kennedy. It truly is one of the most moving moments in television history.

This is a performance where you can draw a line in the sand and say, there were performances before and then there was Judy's 'Battle Hymn', and then you've seen and felt everything you need to.

Judy Garland’s tribute to JFK performed on her weekly TV show the week following his assassination. “This is for you, Jack,” she said into the camera.

She snuck this in, I read as CBS wanted to ignore the loss of the President. The most amazing performer....

you can feel the rawness of that post JFK moment in performance and in the audience's response.
