I've never heard a version with the lyrics the other way but maybe there are, since Carnival got changed once.

No worries. Actually in one version of The Carnival is Over Judith sings "...how it breaks my heart to grieve you" instead of "how it breaks my heart to leave you".

Thanks. I was looking at the printed lyrics which say "can't evade". So I thought that is what she had been singing all along but on listening to other versions I guess not. "Can erase" makes more sense so I thought it was an improvement they made.

But "Now your lips can erase the heartache I've known" is what the original lyric is meant to be, it hasn't been altered.

Sounds to me like the lyrics were altered on this line from "Now your lips can't evade the heartache I've known" to "Now your lips can erase the heartache I've known".
