I read a comment maybe in This is Permanence but it was along the lines that Ian danced that way to offer a third second of third layer to the music. What you heard what you thought And what you saw. The dance was almost sign language expressing the song visually.

All four members have completely different playing styles...erratic, technical, controlled, confident... Watching them, they don't seem to mesh together...but they make the most unique music. It's almost like 4 bands that have never played together and are jamming for the first time and the result is amazing!
