Oh Ian you speak to me more than you could have ever known. such an absolutely brilliant songwriter lost to all of us,music lovers,at such a tragically young age. hope you have finally found peace wherever you are. RIP another lost genius

My favorite Joy Division song--the manner in which the tempo and instrumentation lacks complete congruency with the existential angst underlying the lyrics is brilliant. I would like to add that for those quick to judge the remaining band members for not 'helping Ian,' you have no idea what you are talking about. The remaining members continued after his suicide to make albums under their new band name, New Order--and several of these were just as dark, but in a different manner. Ian Curtis did not define Joy Division and Joy Division did not define Ian Curtis. In fact, it wasn't until he began experiencing a form of epilepsy that he started having 'fits' on stage--a stylistic element that often defines their legacy today but was the product of a neurological condition. He often could not remember sets they played due to existing in a post-tictal state during this time. The band was broke, he had a wife and daughter down the hall in the very flat where the band practiced, and he saw a girl die from having had a seizure which prompted him to write "She's Lost Control." Way down on the list is the fact that yes, he was a tortured soul like most in the arts to some degree. Knowing I was about to leave for America the next day for our 1st and maybe only American tour, I can't imagine nor could his band members imagine what he was truly going through--if you don't know what you are talking about, just don't type anything. It makes you sound extremely ignorant and judgmental.

What I love is how the upbeat feel the music completely and ingeniously contrasts the context of the lyrics.

I always feel a little creeped out whenever I listen to Joy Division. Maybe because I keep thinking about Ian's suicide and how sometimes their songs sound a very obscure.

I think the vocals just go a tad too high for his style of usually low singing
