I wish I had seen this band live when I was young, I would have been 20 when this song came out, but you never appreciate what you have until it is gone. I seen Journey on July 4th 1979 Day on the green. The lineup was Journey,J.Geils,UFO,Thin Lizzy,Nazareth and the Rockets. And when Journey played When the lights go down in the City, the sun was behind them going down. It was AWESOME! You know they're from San Francisco so they were pretty much home and definitely gave that extra effort for the show. All the other bands were great too except for the opener the Rockets!

I just Journey last night in Seoul ~ and when this song was played I really missed Steve Perry. Arnel did a good job singing as the "lead singer" in the concert ~ he led the audience in singing. I guess if it were Steve Perry singing, I would have complained about the audience. So yes, going to a Journey concert in these days is more about their music and not so much about the lead singer ~ because the audience would just sing along to their favorite songs.
