The original singer for AC/DC was only an average rock singer..so Bon Scott was lucky to be able to take them to another level with his signature voice. Had it been the other way around, AC/DC may not have made it. What Journey had was a LEGACY that could not be replaced by being a NEW BAND. Perry's voice is SOOO unique that if they went with a completely new sound would have resulted in a failure. Their decision to continue the Perry sound is smart. Thank goodness you're not in-charge then.

Have you ever been in band, Lori Sullins??? Making decisions like this is difficult. When you have a unique voice like Perry, who made Journey for what they are, you have to decide whether to continue the legacy or be an entirely new band. Van Halen was LUCKY in their decision with Hagar, but this is only ONE band. Then when they brought in Gary Cherone it was a complete disaster. Roth's voice is not unique, but Perry's voice is. Try to be a NEW band at 50+ and see what happens.

No, you're wrong on this, my friend. Neal was desperately looking for another Perry, which is why they made it happened to bring over Arnel from the Phillipines. They hit a dead end and sponsors were no longer interested in sponsoring the band. They were lucky to have found Arnel and the Journey legacy continued. There were other tenors that toured with Journey before and they sounded nothing like Journey. Neal knew he had to find another Perry or Journey is done.

Watch the movie Dont Stop Believin" Everymans Journey Dont judge because he is not what you are use to. He isnt trying to be Steve Perry. His voice is just amazing I am a die hard ol skool Journey fan I love me some Steve Perry, dont get me wrong. I was skeptical at first. I went & seen them In Cincy OH 9/6/08 then watched their movie. Watched Arnels story unfold. He is AMAZING!! Cherry, you go girl! You take care of him. And your right. He comes from a place we know nothing about. Much Love!!

He might have felt that the last few records were too heavy on ballads and love songs, so he might (I'm guessing) have wanted to do a musical 360, and put the focus squarely back on the guitars. Since Perry was ousted, it's all been a case of vocalist musical chairs as it is. My fave post-Perry was Augeri; there was a guy who was not simply an interpreter, but a true, blood and guts SINGER.

But when Perry began fronting the band, the group seemed tilted in the direction of HIS songs, never mind whether or not they were written with/out Schon or Cain. And let's not forget that Schon's driving, aggressive guitars were a close second to Perry's rich vocals. When you combined those two elements, the end product was simply unstoppable.
