I know it's probably about 10 months too late for your Best Cover Song noms for the Anorak Club but as an anathema for the pared down covers have you ever heard The Damned's version of Help? Also love the Clash's version of Bankrobber and Madness's version of It Must Be Love. All "Pared Up" covers!

Don't get me wrong Jay - I too am a huge Clash fan. Few from that era have stood the test of time. Still prefer this though. I am a bit of a fan of pared down stuff these days,so may account? I've set up a music 'anoraks' club where I live. We have a category coming up soon - 'Best cover song'. It's going to be between this and Talking Heads 'This must be the place (Naive melody)' - Shawn Colvin does a fantastic version - totally pared back once again. Guess it's an age thing !

Another one who discovered this on the 'Q' freebie of Clash covers. Now there are cover versions and then there are cover versions ! Simply superb and yes, better than the original. Have quite a few Josh Rouse CD's and you have to be a tad careful. He's best at doleful, soulful stuff and this is at the pinnacle. Fantastic.

I never actually knew some of these lyrics before hearing this. I think I'm gonna have to try and cover this one. you are a good influence. lol the song is over now. thanks for this
