*Can you hear its lonely sound too?**WEEPING**I knew a man who lived in fear**It was huge, it was angry,**It was drawing near.**Behind his house a secret place**Was the shadow of the demon**He could never face.**He built a wall of steel and flame**And men with guns to keep it tame**Then standing back he made it plain**That the nightmare would never ever rise again**But the fear and the fire and the guns remain.**It doesn't matter now it's over anyhow**He tells the world that it's sleeping**But as the night came round**I heard its lonely sound**It wasn't roaring, it was weeping**It wasn't roaring, it was weeping.**And then one day the neighbours came**They were curious to know about the smoke and flame**They stood around outside the wall**But of course there was nothing to be heard at all**"My friends," he said, "We've reached our goal**The threat is under firm control**As long as peace and order reign**I'll be damned if I can see a reason to explain**Why the fear and the fire and the guns remain."*

Bright Blue - WeepingOne of the most spine chilling songs for all South Africans.Apartheid was a load of bollocks and for that matter so is every other conflict in this world today. It is called communication, talk to people and problems gets solved, NO ONE WANTS TO DIE.+Warren Searle +Chris Roll

Great to see a South African group recognised by such a legend. A very important song indeed.

Very touching song! I have never heard this song, before tonight. The Weeping last for the night, but Joy can come in the Morning......Feeling this Songs heart.

Sorry, this just doesn't work for me. Agree with other comment about the production of the piece. It only works in the greater context of Apartheid and the fears at the time. I doubt if anyone can record this after the fact and still get the same feeling going that was there in the 80's. Good effort though Josh.

Cecile Rous …you are so right! The intense quiet sadness of the original is far more powerful than this version!

Yes Josh does have a fantastic voice, and the song is well performed... BUT, in this version they have left out one of the most important parts. between the verses and at various intervals of the original song (recorded in South Africa in 1986) there were cords from the hymn Inkosi Sikelel' iAfrika (which makes up the bulk of the current SA National Anthem) It was hugely significant because when these white boys from the suburbs wrote and recorded this song, Inkosi Sikelel' iAfrika was banned and it was illegal to play. What they did could have resulted in treason charges and the death penalty.
