Well, I've had a couple of requests for a video where Jose Gonzalez's "Heartbeats" is played slowly, and so here it is.

Please note: Jose Gonzales tends to change the way he plays the song everytime he does a recording of it. It's never exactly the same, to the note, as he plays it very organically. This video shows the basic structure that (I think) he uses. Sometimes there are notes added or taken away in the song, but this is basically it.

I have the capo on fret 2 for this recording.

The strings are tuned to (without the capo): D-A-D-F#-B-E

If you look at my other video and/or tabs online, you should be able to figure the rest out. I may create a tab of my version later on.

When he starts singing, there's a variation in the finger picking, which is shown in this video (the 3rd and 4th bars at the beginning of the vid).

Anyway, I hope this helps.

Peace.

Just realized I've been playing it slightly wrong for a looong time. Am I the only one who plays it just with my thumb though? Guess I learnt how to play it before I could finger pick lol. There's also a variation in this that he doesn't play in the album version. I play it this way though

Nice! Obviously you can't learn this just from this video but I think this one gets it right. Other tutorials have thumb picking the top three strings. The tuning often has adjacent strings playing the same note which leads to many possible picking patterns but playing the thumb on only the top two strings gets a much more natural constant rhythm going making it easier to learn and play.

Can someone answer me @bluestormdeath if you have to tune the guitar in a SPECIAL way or if it works with the standard tuning. Cause the 3'rd string sounds very ODD!

What a mad tune this is, i tried to play this all week but couldn't get it at all. Then i woke up this morning and "BOOM" there it was all in my brain! My fingers are dead now from playing it now but they will heal. On a more serious note - if your learning this and relatively new to guitar try just getting the thumb (bass) parts down first then add the two other fingers. Top Top video, a really big help. Kudos to d3fin3d!
