Kaufman Is very fine, however, the recording that millions of Germans owned, before WWII, and the singer that made the tune popular was sung by Joseph Schmidt. That recording is here on on Youtube. He was, probably, more popular than Kaufman is now, but give a listen. Both are great.

Ho l'impressione che Kaufmann attiri su di sé più passioni, sia in negativo che in positivo, irrazionali, dettate o dall'invidia per la concentrazione di belle doti in quest'unico uomo, o dall'adorazione per le stesse. E questo impedisce a tutti di dare su di lui un giudizio sereno. Allora io vorrei suggerire a tutti il seguente comportamento: chi da Kaufmann trae il piacere dell'ascolto e della visione, chi se ne soddisfa, lo ascolti. Chi invece si sente ribollire il sangue per la rabbia, eviti di procurare a se stesso questo dispiacere e lo ignori. Ma basta con queste assurde battaglie polemiche. Volenti o nolenti, bisogna ammettere che non ci sono proposte migliori e che se Kaufmann riesce a catalizzare su di sé masse di ammiratori (e ammiratrici) come nessun altro, vuol dire che ha delle qualità che nessun altro ha. Mettetevi il cuore in pace. Per quanto mi riguarda, attenendomi strettamente a questo pezzo, devo dire che finora non lo avevo sentito da lui, anche perché mi sono sempre sentita soddisfatta dall'interpretazione di Tauber prima di tutto, e poi di Wunderlicht. Con questi termini di paragone pensavo di non poterlo apprezzare. Invece mi piace, mi piace molto. L'ho ascoltato più volte di seguito e trovo che la modulazione della voce sia il risultato di un grande lavoro, da eccellente professionista qual'è, tanto da riuscire ad ovviare a certe durezze che tutti conosciamo. Penso che Kaufmann si sottoponga ad una grande disciplina per mantenersi ad alto livello in tutti i sensi e per questo gli tributo il mio più convinto applauso.

Tengo la sensación de que estoy escuchando "un viejo gramófono", sin embargo estoy viendo (con mis propios ojos) cantar a Kaufmann "en diferido".Bueno… es guapo, simpático, a veces sabe cantar "bien" ópera.
