I "liked" many posts, a lot of which contradicted others I liked. I appreciated them because they had passion and insight. Common among all, though, was this: It's silly to compare these greats. It can take a while for some players to move on from "the competition," but it's important that they do.

Tremendous musician and, not just blues, the late, great Johnny Winter was an outstanding rocker. Without a doubt, he belongs in the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame. As far as I'm concerned,,,,, THEIR LOSS!!!!!!!

They call clapton "slowhand" for a reason... comparing blues artists is like comparing scredrivers to fruit. leave it be and just appreciate it.

"Pat Boone of the blues" haha, good one. Someone once wrote Winter sounded like he was being paid by the note. Everyone influences everyone and who's better than whom (other than technical proficiency) is totally subjective. It boils down to what do you like. This terrific performance builds on the Clapton/Cream arrangement of Crossroads, a radical departure from Robert Johnson's original. No Clapton arrangement, no Winter cover. Endless displays of arrogance are immature, close-minded, boring and pointless, as any of the artists mentioned in the comments would tell you. They all admire one another.

Unique, too bad general audiences don't get it or I could see more acts like this more often....instead of Ka;y Parry at the Superbowl

Johnny Winters Is an American Treasure ! No one has covered as much Blues material as him!. His recordings surpass anything Clapton or anyone else has done. He is a a "Blues" Historical Icon! Unlike Kanye West Or Beyounce! LOL

When Johnny Winter, Jimi Hendrix, or Stevie Ray Vaughn would get hold of a song, amazing things would happen. Of course, the same can be said Eric Clapton in the early Cream days, Jeff Beck, Mike Bloomfield in the late 60's, James Burton, Freddie King and many others. All the greats are unique, but Winter, Hendrix, and Stevie Ray could make you see God.

Johnny sounds like a bluesman doing Crossroads. my oh my "poor Eric" is right, Johnny just tears this song away from Eric and makes it his own.

Johnny was the Master! I grew up on Clapton, and loved his playing too. But Johnny was the original real deal and other great players imitated him. Born to play, Johnny was the Master!

Its so funny that SRV should even be mentioned here. Everything SRV played was stolen from Albert King. That goes for Clapton also. Anyone can see that Winter just smoked the hell out of everyone. Most SRV fans are younger and don't have the depth to appreciate my comments here. As for Clapton, he is The Pat Boone of the Blues!
