So right about Orbison....no one could touch him. He rocked liked no one else. Saw him and joe pecsi sang pretty woman together, both playing fenders, it was the boss of all rock time, in my opinion. He will last forever!

Great voice but no one should ever take on a Big O song. Even Elvis left his songs alone and admired the Big O

A very good version of a classic and as for the remark below claiming that Roy is the only one who can sing 'only The Lonely', what nonsense. Sonny James does a superb version of the song as well.

it always amuses me how people think that just because a singer covers a song, he or she must be a copycat of another....Much like Elvis and Brenda Lee. and hundreds of others...they make the song their own, not a half worked comparison...Everyone that puts a great singer down for not being like another...don't listen if you don't like.

Roy OrbisonJohnny Tillotson sings a Roy Orbison 'Only The Lonely "in 1969. THE great singer Tillotson 1960. Celebrity Big Hits "Poetry In Motion" and "Send Me The Pillow That You Dream On." The Orbison interesting links. Johnny Tillotson-volt Christmas Song Roy Orbison "Pretty Paper" and others. Did you know that Roy Orbison is a monument in a backup band hits (Master allo studio musicians, a mint Boots Randolph and Floyd Kramer) in the same band played one of the "Poetry In Motion"? Super Cool!

As a tribute artist for the past 20 + years I have to say Johnny Tillotson made this, his song. As the big "O" did to his many covers. Great stuff!!

@ILoveJenni47 certainly Roy Orbison did the definitive performance of this song, BUT to overlook, or dismiss the CHRIS ISAAK "Only The Lonely" is absurd, and an utter injustice. Roy would have applauded the Chris Isaak treatment of this classic, because Roy was that kind of guy. Chris always exceeds the expectations of mere song-addicts. That's what Chris does, plain and simple. He rises far above the "pretty boy", and "Lady-killer" labels, and delivers the goods.

I agree it's his version of the song however you will get people who will compare one from the other you get a lot of critical comments in opera it was roy's song and will alway's be however i like to hear different singers interpretations an example of an excellent cover was"House without windows" done by Ray peterson which was a roy orbison song also.cherrs gazza uk
