Johnny Mathis Sings Victor Hugo

God on high

Hear my prayer

In my need

You have always been there

He is young

He's afraid

Let him rest

Heaven blessed.

Bring him home

Bring him home

Bring him home.

He's like the son I might have known

If God had granted me a son.

The summers die

One by one

How soon they fly

On and on

And I am old

And will be gone.

Bring him peace

Bring him joy

He is young

He is only a boy

You can take

You can give

Let him be

Let him live

If I die

Let me die

Let him live

Bring him home

Bring him home

Bring him home.

Elgin Subwaysurfer Boling-- In respect to Ann Hathaway's version of " I Had a Dream" her version was done out of sequence in respect to where the song was sung in the stage musical versions. In the stage version the song is done right after she loses her job long before she has become bitter from her experience on the street as a lady of the evening. It is done in a reflective and sad vain. Ann Hathaway's version is done after she has experienced her degradation and she is filled with anger and bitterness. If stage actresses did it like Ann it would be totally out of place in respect to the script. It seems to me that the Movie was geared more towards creating dramatic scene's at the expense the musical numbers. Although I liked what Ann did with her performance, I felt Jackman in his performance tended to destroyed the music purely for the sake of the dramatic. It was after all supposed to be a musical.

My dad was delivering window shades to a store on Robertson Blvd and Mr. Mathis was there. My father told him how much joy his music gave to him and my mother and he belted out "Chances Are" for my dad and the ladies in the office. It was one of my dad's favorite stories. I share the same admiration for Mr. Mathis...God love him.

In the 2013 movie version of les miserables, Annie Hathaway, wowed audiences with her raw, emotionally intense vocal rendition of "i Dreamed a Dream". All previous broadway versions were song very beautifully and sweetly. Every note perfectly flawless. Ann chose to interpret the song based on the experiences f her character up until that point which was anything but beautiful. As a result, her version may set a new standard for how the song is performed. THIS is a perfect example of how an arti

Without question Johnny doesn't sing this song with the power and authority that we are accustomed to hearing in the Broadway renditions by Boe and others, but when a singer sings a song, any song, he brings himself to it and adapts it to his voice and infuses it with his level of passion and emotion. Johnny is doing exactly what he's always done given his range and personality, and doing it beautifully.

That's weird, this version deviates from the notes of the sheet music. Sweet, but uninspired.

I'm not saying Johnny's a bad singer -- quite the contrary, he's wonderful. Just because you love a song doesn't mean your voice is right for it. No one can sing everything, and this isn't his song.

Almost all songs can be adapted, for the singers range and the voices strengths and weaknesses. But you dont mess with a power ending unless you can go it one better. Johnny cheated the ending here. If you cant sing those last high notes you shouldnt sing the song.

You really didn't need to write out the lyrics, because Mathis's every word is crystal clear. He belongs to the old school of pop singers who actually knew how to sing. Imagine that!
