I saw the Brooklyn Bridge in Atlantic City at Steel Pier and I still remember it like it was yesterday. The "New Song was What are You going to do about Your Husband an What am I going to do about my wife" and of course they sang 16 Candles. Great times!

This is just a great song. Like so many of it's era, it is simple and innocent. As Johnny sings you can picture exactly what's going on and you almost want to stand up and cheer, as his friends did, at the "surprise" ending.

On this day in 1961 {April 25th} Johnny Maestro performed "What A Surprise" on the late Dick Clark's 'American Bandstand' One day earlier on April 24th it entered Billboard's Hot Top 100 chart; eventually it peaked at #33 and spent 9 weeks on the Top 100 As a solo artist he had three Top 100 hits; but as leader singer of the Crests and Brooklyn Bridge he made the Top 100 seventeen times, with "16 Candles" by the Crests being the biggest hit {#2 for 2 weeks in 1959} RIP Mr. Maestro & Mr. Clark
