Brilliant song, first brought to my attention during the UK General Election campaign of 2015.

The Weavers, I believe, are the subject of this song. Anyone? '50's blacklist superstars, took one right on the nose.

Somebody wondered if it was political. Of course. It was satire from back in the days of burning draft cards, etc. Left and right were fighting each other. As one who has always leaned to the left, I was falling on the floor laughing at myself. We took ourselves so seriously.

This song was a thinly disguised parody of the Kingston Trio. They actually got into a fight onstage at Carnegie Hall. One of them smashed his guitar into the stage and stormed off. It's hard to be a Leftie or a Hippie (think Peter, Paul, and Mary) when you make six figures a year and drive a Corvette...

On the YouTube pages that present works of Wagner I notice that some people make comments about Wagner's disturbing political opinions rather than about the quality of his music, but I just like the music.

What do you think "The one on the right was on the left..." refers to? The guy on the right side of the stage was a liberal, the guy in the middle part of the stage was a conservative, the guy on the left side of the stage was a moderate, and the guy in the rear part of the group did whatever he could to try to avoid being drafted. It was obviously written as satire.
