At 1.00 is the Clinchfield #1 that was restored in 1968 after rusting away for 14 years in the Erwin, TN Rail Yard. I remember watching it pull the " Santa Claus Special " through Erwin on its way to Elkhorn City, KY. Even though it didn't toss out gifts in Tennessee there was always quite a crowd beside the track to watch it pass by. The #1 was moved to a Railroad Museum in Baltimore, Maryland in 1979.

I travel by Amtrak when I travel long distance, it sure beats flying, driving and riding on buses. If there were more Amtrak trains traveling between Tucson & Los Angeles, I would be riding out to Los Angeles, San Diego & Ventura more often, and train travel is the civilized way to travel. I wish they would have trains between Philadelphia & Scranton, PA as all roads between Philadelphia & Scranton are too busy(I-476) and the other 4 routes are too slow to drive on.

But some of us still wake up and find ourselves listenn' for that long lonesome whistle in the night. That's what Americas dreams are made of. Close your eyes...and I bet you can still hear that whistle blow.

Me too. Better than driving a car in heavy traffic.

3 people who dislike this video must really love to burn out their money on gasoline for their cars. Riding the train is the most safest form of ground transportation. I am more likely to get killed driving in a car than riding a train. I live and work in Japan, and I live near a train station. Whenever I want to get out of town, I take the train. I have also been on the Shinkansen (Bullet) train at 300 km/h. Very expensive but nice.

GEEZ! ~ I can feel the "clickity-clack" beneath my feet. I used to be a switchman/trainman on the "P-Company". Way back when! Still love trains and their wondeful melodies.... Curt Erler Find me at this site ... curterlerauthor
