Ich liebe dieses Lied. Ein vertontes Gebet, das man auch mögen kann, wenn man es nicht so mit der Kirche hat... Ein ganz wundervoller Text. Weshalb es auch so oft auf Beerdigungen gespielt wird... Hoffentlich in ganz, ganz, ganz ferner Zukunft auch mal bei meiner. Toller Text:"Ich bin schwach, doch Du bist stark. Jesus, halte mich von allem Falschen fern, ich werde befriedigt/zufrieden sein solange ich mit Dir gehe, (...Rf.) Wenn mein schwaches Leben vorüber ist, keine Zeit mehr für mich übrig ist, führe mich sanft und sicher heim zu Deinem friedvollen Ufer, zu Deinem Ufer (...Rf.)". Leider fehlt bei Johnny Cashs Interpretation die mittlere Strophe:"Durch die Welt von Plagen und Fallen, wenn ich stolpere, Herr, wer kümmert sich? Wer teilt mit mir meine Leiden? Niemand außer Dir, lieber Gott, niemand außer Dir."Vielleicht empfinden manche Menschen diesen Text als depressiv oder düster. Für mich hat er etwas Friedliches, Versöhnendes und Beruhigendes... Einfach schön. :-)Ach, fast vergessen:(Rf.: "Nur ein gemeinsamer Gang mit Dir gewähre mir, Jesus, ist mein Flehen. Täglich gemeinsam mit Dir gehen, lass es geschehen, lieber Gott, lass es geschehen.")

Johnny, Elvis, Jerry Lee, they all were masters of gospel. Obviously without these men we wouldn't have country or rock and roll as we know it today; but gospel was their best genre bar none. His voice is so big and strong, and that low plea is amazing! Could have been an operatic basso with training...talent is talent!

I remember as a child I use to rive my momma nuts when he would come on t.v., I had to be right in front of it. I was only about 5 or 6 but when it came to him and Elvis, they were the top of the crops for me. My Momma is in Heaven with them both now probably telling them all about it.
