I'm Ragged but I'm Right - Song written by Johnny Cash

Well I've come here to tell you folks I'm ragged but I'm right

I'm a tramp and a gambler I stay out late at night

But a porterhouse steak steak three times a day for my board

That's more than any loafer in this old town can afford

Well I got big electric fan to keep me cool while I sleep

A little baby boy playin' rounds at my feet

I'm a rambler and a gambler and I've lead a dirty life

Well I tell you folks I'm ragged but I'm right

Well then I got married I knew I'd settle down

And I built a little love nest right here in my hometown

Now I've got a family one that I'm proud of

I know that I'll be happy cause they're the ones I love

Well I got big electric fan to keep me cool while I sleep

A little baby boy playin' rounds daddy's feet

I'm a rambler and a gambler and I've lead a dirty life

Well I tell you folks I'm ragged but I'm right

I'm a rambler and a gambler I've lead a dirty life

Well I tell you folks I'm ragged but I'm right

My favorite job ($90.00 per hour)singing with Johnny Cash on this song.I always wanted to sing backup harmony because as a child my sister always made me sing the melody and she sang harmony (she went on to sing "Day By Day "in Godspell in New York and "Freddy My Love"on Broadway in Grease then palyed Julia Newman on "Yhe Young and The Restless"

Riley Puckett sang it back in the 20s before George was born. George's version is my favorite, though ;p

It's George's song. The version of him doing it on The Louisiana Hayride is really good.

It is a traditional song. Riley sang it. George Jones later arranged it,put a little different title on it, and changed some words. Cash and others sang Gorge's version.

the song originally is an old traditional blues/jazz/ragtime song george jones just re-wrote a few verses and changed some of the music a tiny bit to make it more of a country song. but he didn't write the whole thing.

this song was written by the living legend, George Jones and was a hit for George back in the late 50's or early 60's. George and Johnny where life long friends and toured together during the early years
