I am a big fan of Johnny Cash and gave him some of my recordings when he was in California during a concert. I am saddened how everything nowadays is not manly, all the vocals are more of a higher  register usually for smaller people.Which has it's merits of course.  But Johnny was taller and had a deeper voice. Which is to me one of pop cultures biggest mistakes for sure.  it is almost as if you have a deep voice your consigned to Doo wop  hell :) And can't get out :( But there has been some mighty great hits in the 50's and early 60 that made history and styles like Johnny's should be on the top of the charts. Sure there are singers like Josh Turner but he really doesn't have a low baritone voice like Johnny did nor the priceless "Ring of Fire" "Folsom Prison Blues " etc, And with that low voice it is practically unbeatable even by the high voices which so much takes over all of pop media. Maybe someday there will be a reniassance of the Johnny Cash type vocal.

On this day in 1970 {April 29th} Johnny Cash with June Carter performed "It Ain't Me Babe" on his own ABC-TV program "The Johnny Cash Show"... Six years earlier on October 31st, 1964 it entered Billboard's Hot Top 100 chart; eventually it peaked at #58 and spent 8 weeks on the Top 100... It reached #4 on Billboard's Hot Country singles chart and #28 in the United Kingdom... R.I.P. Mr. Cash {1932 - 2003} and Ms. Carter {1929 - 2003}...

I love Johnny Cash but this makes me cringe. Its just wrong on so many levels. I know Dylan and Cash were friendly and admired each others work but this was not the tune to cover. Of course, that;s just my personal opinion. I have almost everything JC recorded with Sun, Columbia and Ameican Recordings and I can't stomach it.
