Polyphony (dir. Stephen Layton):

CHRISTMAS LULLABY

"Christmas Lullaby" was written (music and text) in 1989 by John Rutter for the Bach Choir and its conductor, Sir David Willcocks, for performance at the choir's hugely popular Christmas concerts in London's Royal Albert Hall. It also marked Willcock's seventieth birthday, as one of three commisioned carols - the others being by William Mathias and Willcock's son Jonathan.

The haunting melody of the verses and the reflective refrain of 'Ave Maria' have made this an immensely popular carol.

What a wonderful choir polyphony is! Warm and expressive. In contrast to units like the BBC singers cold and brash!
