@2:18 Prine is like, "who is this guy doing my song such justice?"...passing the torch.

It's kind of dad to watch if you keep in mind that John Prine's natural singing voice was often somewhat high pitched and very strong then he got throat cancer in 1998, at least he can still sing and do what he loves and his fans love his new gravelly voice which matches his music style. It's just kind of sad to watch for a long time Prine fan. But Yim Yames did a very good job singing John's song.

He goes by Jim James as a member of My Morning Jacket but often Yim Yames on solo-work.

A tribute is a recognition, not a statement of determined hierarchy. Jim being better is just opinion, which is why my comment simply said "I'd argue". A tribute can recognize greatness, originality, innovation, etc, but it doesn't mean anything negative about the one doing the tribute. There are phenomenal young artists in the world today that show their respect through tributes and/or covers, but just because a musician came first and is recognized doesn't mean they're better. Just first.
