Today is March 17. It was today in 1987 that I saw John Prine at Chrysler Hall in Norfolk, VA. His show consisted of a microphone, two acoustic guitars, and a table with a pitcher of water, and that was it. Arlo Guthrie opened.

So many excellent songwriters to discover, so little time.Really, really good. Would've been even better with a slightly less "Nashvilly" production, though. I don't think they would've produced him this way nowadays, so I guess he was a victim of his time.

Yes the words are the story of my life. So great in so many things but it seems not so good in marriage.

Wow! Awesome music video that gets the feeling across. You can sense there is something not right between John and Rachael then.

His ex-wife looks a little lonely or distant in this song. maybe it is about John. Love it either way. With Nanci Griffith it is a duet, and here you can see John glance at her when I think she is supposed to jump in, she doesn't and near the end of the song she kind of stares at him while his back is turned. Oh well, just an observation. Love Prine.
