<< Perfectly crafted popular hit songs never use the WRONG RHYME; You'd think that waitress could get my order right the FIRST TIME. She's sittin' on the back steps, just shuckin' that corn. That gals been grinnin' since the day she was born. I used to live in Chicago, where the cold wind blows. I delivered more junk mail than the junk yard would hold. You can fool some of the people part of the time in a rock 'n roll song. 50 million Elvis Presley fans can't be wrong. >> Lyric writing doesn't get much better.

You know those rare songs you hear for the first time and just love it? This would be one in my book. First heard it driving through Cranston, Rhode Island, Summer of '95. Still love this tune!!

Lyrical masterpiece. Very upbeat compared to his other stuff. The whole stream of consciousness thing is just brilliant. I think John could keep writing great songs until he's 90. if only his buddy Steve Goodman had lived half that long.

Thanks, I haven't seen this for twenty years since it was on the Country Music Channel circa 94/95. Great song! I wonder who was or is Lucky Larue?

How can people come to this song & then not like it. The mind boggles. You surely know what you are likely to get with Prine. This is great, just rolls along.

I SAW LITTLE RICHARD, BUT NOT FROM A TELEPHONE-POLE, AND I WAS OLDER, HE HAS A WAY OF PAINTING WORD PICTURES, THAT BRINGS HIS SONGS TO DAILY-LIFE, (as for the 'nasty-little-man,mvan1225, I suspect he is suffering from ''talent-envy)

John has shades of Dylan and Petty yet with a style all his own - good stuff

I always thought of this song as satire--that things like gambling prostitution will are not victimless crimes and the whole song is made to point out that hey you fools these things do hurt people. am I wrong? he sure gets a deranged look on his face at the end of the song. "just thinking about you with my hand in my pocket"
