Farm Aid was started by Willie Nelson, Neil Young and John Mellencamp in 1985 to keep family farmers on the land and has worked since then to make sure everyone has access to good food from family farmers. Dave Matthews joined Farm Aid's board of directors in 2001.

You gotta understand, first off he is in his 60s. Also has been suffering from throat cancer for quite a few years. He rarely does big concerts because he is very aware he can't perform like he used to (he admits to this plenty in any of his interviews over the past few years. He was asked to be apart of this benefit because of what he stands for value wise. Other than charity stuff that he is asked to do, he pretty much does small local venues.9 years ago

His career is a joke now and he is going to develop lung cancer very soon and die. Sad to say but listen to his voice. This guy is my childhood hero. Seen 15 plus concerts, went to mellenfest 2000 when i was five to meet him and he didnt show up so i hung out with toby and Michael.
