IMO, Bey has it on lock. and I'm equally a fan of both. Had Bey's B-Day album when I was 18 and John Mayer's Continuum album (which is absolutely freakin' FABULOUS BTW!!!!!), and all I would do was listen to both of their albums that year (2006-2007). So no one can say my opinion is biased. For the most part, the original versions cannot be out done. it's very rare when a cover is better than the original, IMO. For example, Open Arms by Journey. I LOVE Mariah to pieces (my idol hands down), and I have always liked Boyz To Men, but I'm not even gonna give those fantastic artists/vocalists more credit than Steve Perry. Journey's version of that song can't be touched. As for a cover I do think is better than it's original; Amy Winehouse's version of Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow? That's an example of a time someone out-did the original version (IMO). √√√ :)
