I disagree with you. He was under the weather for this performance. I saw him in February of 2010 and he sounded outstanding in every aspect. I don't think Mayer will ever have a lack of confidence. That being said if you watch videos from the end of the Battle Studies Tour you can tell that his voice was on the way out. The tour was too long and definitely contributed to his condition he has been going through. Tons of respect though Mayer is the man, I agree dude!

to sund like him is easy: just listen to what inspires and inspired him all the way back, like Clapton, Hendrix, BB King, led zeppelin and much more and follow his steps... easier than that is getting his autographe.

Thanks very much for your help. Yeah im playing through a tubescreamer amp and using neck pickup and after finally nailing this solo i can notice similarities between my tone and his. Still sounds like nothing compared to him though I would say you are right it is largely down to his touch!

Any experts out there know what pedals settings would help to achieve a similar tone to his first solo at 2.56?

@Stilgar74 nuthin wrong with the guitar tech dude... the producer and sound specialist for this tour Chad had never done a hall with so much acoustic which made it really hard for him, i heard in an interview.... the audience had perfect sound but the rest is kinda out..

I've said it before and I'll say it again... the guitar tech needs shooting for badly tuned guitars and the engineer is also obviously given shoddy mixes to the in-ears...

@FAZman23 Of course, this show is just a few days after Battle Stuedies came out. Also I'm sure this isn't as soundchecked as Where The Light Is ;-). The shows I like best are from march 2010 and on, untill Keith Carlock replaced Steve in june or so.

It's always interesting to see Mayer at the beginning of a tour. He's even said it himself, the whole band is still learning the songs at that point. He seems so much more vulnerable at the start, yet he's still miles better than any of us.
