I had no idea this guy sang! I liked him in The Great Escape! Was he ever on American Bandstand?

I was born in 1960 so just about remember the late 60s great music and the 70s/80s stopped listening to music part way through the 90s just think modern pop music is poor at best or just me getting old

My twin sister has started calling our dad Johnny and I know he likes some of the old John Leyton records. 'Johnny Remember Me' sounds good to me.

There's one person who has never really got the credit they deserve for this track, and that is Lissa Gray who performed the haunting backing vocals that really made this recording what it is. There are several decent versions of this track, but only one has the Meek production sound and that girl's eerie voice. Joe Meek productions really come alive when played good and loud, and this one can still make spines tingle 54 years on. Compared to it's chart contemporaries in 1961 it must have sounded like it came from another world. Helen Shapiro was at #2 when this hit the top spot. Talk about chalk and cheese.

Why do British, Irish and British Commonwealth professional singers *fake* rhotic neutral accents when singing pop songs? Not that I dislike them, I *do* love them - I'm just unsatisfied.
