"I'm The Greatest" given to Ringo for his "Ringo" album. But this is John's original version. www.beatlely.wordpress.com

This song gives great insight into Lennon's intelligence and self-awareness. He wrote it as a joke. But then he realized it wouldn't be perceived that way. So then he gave it to Ringo, whom he knew could pull it off without a backlash. Lennon had the ability to view things objectively, a great asset.

You see, Lennon has no comic ability vocally. He sounds serious. He couldn't have released it himself

Lennon wrote the song after watching himself in "a hard days night". He thought he was terrible in it but all the entourage, hangers on, yes-men and parasites kept telling him he was amazing. Its a joke song basically. About people praising and sucking up to rich people.Ringo asked Lennon for a song for his nre album. So Lennon gave him this. As he thought Ringo could pull it off. He didn't think he could perform it well himself. Ringo was very good at injecting humour into songs in the beatles. If Lennon released it im sure people wouod have assumed he was being arrogant. As he has no comic timing in his vocals

John actually wrote this song to himself but then he thought "Ringo is the greatest human ever, I gotta give this song to him".Now the song makes sense.

According to Lennon's interview with Playboy, all 4 Beatles worked in this song. This could be considered the last Beatles song.
