Unfortunately John Kay was disliked in the industry, big ego, no record companies would touch him, made millions when CD,s came out.

This song does have a nice hook. Should have been released as a single

This song was given to a band called Navasota who then gave it to a friend of mine named Larry Perry during a brief time that Larry played with Navasota back in the early '70s. He and another good friend of mine named Vincent (smokin' drummer) played this song for a good while though in more of an up-tempo, driving country-rock vein and it was great the way they played it. It was indeed written by Fagan and Becker. Navasota (named after the town of Navasota in Texas) went to Los Angeles to record and while there they met Fagan and Becker and we're given this song to record. I don't know if they ever recorded it though... After watching several Steely Dan videos lately, on a whim I decided to look for this song and am thrilled to have found this recording of it! Nice job John Kay!

Yeah, weird verses but that chorus just kills.

WHY, this song was never released as a single is beyond me. It would have been a huge hit for John Kay!

You have a good point. The song does suck. Most of the rest of the album is really good or just ok.

Does anyone know what this song is about? I like the album but not this song. It was written by Becker & Fagen of Steely Dan amongst a collection of other songs that were intended to be recorded by other artists. Apparently this one was the only one that "snuck thorugh" which, as Becker and Fagen suggested themselves, it tells you just how crap the others were. Would like to know what it is about though.
