I toured with John Gary in about 1963 when he came to South Africa .. he was a very shy man so we never got to know him well but what an artiste .. I learned more from him about singing and breath control than from anybody else in my career. He was a diver in his younger days, hence the incredible breath control .. thanks for this memory of him.

Before I was a teenager I "discovered" John Gary when he was the summer replacement for Danny Kaye (I think it was). I immediately liked his unpretentious manner &, of course, his wonderful voice.

Beatiful. Listen to that range! Great voice quality from clear head-voice down through his rich baritone. Also remarkable too is his breath control and use of phrasing to create more emotional expression. Listening to John Gary sing this song is a clinic in exceptional male solo vocalization

One of my mom's favorite singers. This brings back so many memories. She would play John Gary while on our big Magnavox stereo while she cleaned house. This takes me back to those times. He really did have an incredible gift.

That is exactly what happened to me! C2C had it sung by Tony Bennett. It was great. My mom loved Bennett and John Gary. That's what we grew up listening to. This version is incredible and I love the evil look on Elvis' face in the photo tribute to Gary here. Thanks@!!
