The Blue Ridge Rangers

Is the first solo album by John Fogerty, the former lead singer and lead guitarist of Creedence Clearwater Revival.

Upon its initial release by Fantasy Records in 1973, the album was credited to "The Blue Ridge Rangers" with no mention of Fogerty on the cover. Fogerty chose to do this in order to distance himself from his Creedence legacy. The LP was later reissued and credited to John Fogerty with a different cover design. The CD reissue restores the original silhouette cover photo and credits the album to Fogerty. The album is made up entirely of traditional and country covers, and features Fogerty playing all the instruments.

The album peaked at #47 on the charts. Two singles from the album became hits: "Jambalaya" which peaked at #16, and "Hearts of Stone" which peaked at #37.

In 2009, Fogerty released a sequel to this album, entitled The Blue Ridge Rangers Rides Again.

I didn't know that much about The Blue Ridge Rangers, even less that they covered this. Fogerty sounds a wee bit like Sir Mick Jagger, to my ears, at least. BTW, John Fogerty's 70 today. Many happy returns, John.

This album has been in my truck for a bunch of huntin' trips to a bunch of campgrounds full of good ol boys with a bunch of fine huntin' dogs. Cleaned a lot of pheasants and drank a little too much rum listening to these classics!

When I found the Blue Ridge Rangers album I was elated !! CCR was one of my top groups way back in the late 60's and 70's.Then I left this chick, and she kept all my albums and my good hand picked stereo, with homemade speakers. Hitachi turntable, etc., the best I ever had. Now, we're contending with CD's, and as far as I'm concerned, the sound sucks compared to the good old vinyl !!! I've looked, but I can't find an old album Rangers-Fogerty album in any second hand shop. Is it possible to order it anywhere ????!!! And thanks, "MildlyAnnoyed", I never knew John was the whole album !!! I thought he started a new group after CCR days !! That would make that album worth a bundle now, if she hadn't kept it !!! Thanks, Bitch !! Aw, shit, it was my own fault, I left her, and shouldn't expect an angry chick to give back my shit when I come back looking for it !! Man, I always did stupid things like that, every time I left, I always said I'd be back for my stuff, but never got anything back !! That old saying, about a woman scorned, is true !!!!!! Note to self; Take you're stuff when you go. LOL !!!Hell, I'm too old now to be coming and going all over the place. I just want to finally settle down, when you hit your sixties, you don't have the roaming around left in you !!

Wow that is REALLY impressive! I have always loved John Fogerty but didn't realize that he played all the instruments! Thanks for the history lesson!

Gotta say I'm a little jealous of the guys who are just discovering this album. LOL I've been listening to it all my life (since it came out in the 1970's anyway). Fantastic album that I STILL listen to all the time. Just to add to info that life-long fans like myself have been sharing: John Fogerty (taking a break from CCR) did play ALL of the instruments on ALL of the songs. ...And those silhouettes on the album cover? Appropriately enough, each of those "Rangers" is actually John himself.

John laid a little Fogerty on this already great song, doing it justice as he did so. It doesn't compare to the original because it is unique in his own voice. Thanks John - you gave deserved cred... I loved it.

Very nice version right up there underneath the original. CCR was an awesome group. I enjoyed them throughout my college years.

Great song from a great album! John does a great job on this. At least as good as Willie Nelson's and that is saying something!

That would be a little difficult, since John Fogerty sings and also plays all of the instruments. There is no "group".
