And here I always thought he was singing "Winter's gold". Learn something new every day!

I moved into my first apartment at the start of November in my 20s, and got Denver's holiday album around the first week after settling in. This song always takes me back to that time of first holiday on my own: the serene solitude, taking peace and enjoyment in small things; buying my first Christmas tree; watching the snow fall from the living room windows. One of my best Christmas times.

I am very sorry to hear that. I hope this song helps you think of her with fond memories.

Such a beautiful song. From what I could find, "Winterskol" is the Aspen Winter Festival (January), their annual "Toast to Winter." I looked it up, because I never understood what that word was in this song!
