Unmatched indeed - not only in versatility but also endurance . . . the only artist from that generation (that I can think of) who is still putting out creative, great music!

John Cale reminds us that we should send our kids to music school and be happy about it.

@oYoYebutu I do like to take the piss out of people who pretend to know about art ( I know fuck all about it, which is fine ) by saying "Picasso ? sure he couldn't even paint faces properly." and the look of disgust is priceless.

@thespecter2 It's actually a Jonathan Richman song, though I agree that Cale's is the best version.

I was talking with a Polish guy I work with today. He is going home for Christmas tomorrow. I thought of the amount of people who will be leaving Ireland soon to find work abroad, will there be ships of fools coming home for Christmas ?

That´s why I believe that Cale is one of the greatest musicians of our times. His musical versitality is unmatched. And if you consider his influence in Rock compared to his fame, you get to the conclusion that he is possibly the most underrated artist arround these days! Seems to share the same fate as Van Gogh in his lifetime, with the talent and creativity of a Pablo Picasso.

True. Also, the fact is, Cale has done so much amazing things since the 60s, that it's hard to imagine that it was all the same guy.
