"Guts" was included on John Cale's 1975 fifth album "Slow Dazzle", the second of a trilogy records released by Island Records. Cale played keyboards, guitars, viola, violin and bass on the album, as well as providing Lead Vocals. He was ably supported by an ensemble of other artists signed to Island Records at the time, including Roxy Music's Brian Eno and Phil Manzanera.
