If anyone can find this entire Austin City Limits performance, it would be like Christmas.

I can't believe how different we look now. I was going out with Joe at that time. Smokey Joe on Sax, Robert on drums (or was that after he passed away?), Jesse on Guitar...Those were such fine times we had, me and Joe. I will never forget the times, but seeing this makes me see how young we were. I am at least 10 years younger than he is. I was about 24 when this was made.

First off, how could anyone give this a thumbs down! Thank you so much for this. I grabbed the audio back in 1980, it was on NPR radio and Austin City Limits on PBS TV. This was a high point, and another was Jerry Jeff Walker doing "Contrary to Ordinary" and "LA Freeway". Both bands absolutely killed that night. Thanks for posting this!!!!!

When they'd do this at Gruene, the entire place would go apeshit when Lloyd would start the rumbling boxcars on the refrain (too bad this version is shortened).

Joe Ely's band on Austin City Limits. Great band!

Absolutely the best way to hear this song. Nothing beats Lloyd Maines screaming on the pedal steel along with Jesse's guitar, and Ponty Bone on accordion. Best rock & roll show on the planet.

Ditto what delbertfreeb said... This is the classic Joe Ely lineup for me which I've seen many many times in the 80s. I miss this band, especially Jessie...
