This is just a version by some french dudes. it is unknown which is original but it is speculated that it was a group of men from guantanamo, or joseito made the music and made it famous while jose borbon gave it lyrics from a poem by jose marti, and natalio galan says that it is a modification of a spanish song. whichever it is, the origin has NOTHING to do with french

there is no "original" to this song, it was something that grew organically out of a series of poems from José Martí, 1853-1895. José Fernández but later Pete Seeger both contributed to it in their own way.
