And finally, I think the story here is the diver isn't actually married to the wife, she's just in love with him, and he doesn't even know it. Like, he doesn't know who she is, she's just made a habit of watching him. He drowns one day and she drowns herself too. That's just my interpretation though and at various parts of the song I interpret it differently.
