Cute as hell. Honest, intellectual, artist.

Honest, awesome, immediately likable woman. Andy's a lucky man.

You either don't read, or can't understand what has been written. She attempts to user her affected childish voice to juxtapose her lyrics. Of course the lyrics themselves are trash, chosen only so she can shoehorn in sounds and rhymes where something meaningful should have gone instead. Yeah, it's almost like I've given it no thought at all...

I should know better to engage on the internet. But I'm still going to maintain that you've never actually listened to her music nor read any of her lyrics. I also stand by my original comment that there is absolutely nothing naïve, innocent or child-like about her work. You accuse me of lacking depth of perception yet you're the one who can't see anything past her "unusual voice"...

You need to start reading comments with your brain switched on "artificially invest their music with naiveté" She attempts to juxtapose stupid child-voice with seemingly profound yet inane lyrics. I'm sick of you people, you have no depth to your perception whatsoever.

Argh! Newsom's music is anything but naive. Honestly, your comment makes me think you've never actually listen to her.

Yep, and we can let the shit just pile up until we can't see what is good anymore. Great plan.

And thankfully the whole world doesn't sing like they are adults pretending to be children. As in, they don't try to artificially invest their music with naiveté by imbuing it with a false connotation of child-like wonder and truth. But we are all supposed to only comment in nice things, right?

And the whole world doesn't sing like they are American. But yeah you have the keys to artistic congruence.

Yeah I saw that, I'm pretty sure it was a joke. Note the cigarette was never actually lit. But you never know. I doubt she does though.

Just curious where you heard this?

I don't think that's intentional.

I didn't, it is just funny that the song you suggested caricatured her "style". If you think this is "good poetry" then I don't give a shit what you think, you obviously have no clue. Interesting word choice, by the way. I'd prefer to have a chainsaw shoved up my ass than listen to Joanna Newsom, or converse further with you. Bye.

You can't quote one line and then judge an entire musician's career. You probably wouldn't know good poetry if it shoved a chainsaw up your ass.

"And the shallow Water Stretches as far as I can see" It sure does...

They aren't inane. She's a poet. Not many musicians are. Have you read her lyrics? I advise you to do so. particularly Only Skin. They aren't straightforward because 90% of good poetry isn't. If Edgar Allen Poe was to right his poem, The Raven, like this: "The raven perched on my window sill. It reminded me of my dead wife. I'm paranoid. Help," it wouldn't be a good fuckin poem now would it? Educate yourself please before you make yourself look like a dumbass. Which you do.
