I don't care for this version or Nina Simone's, I much prefer the Hamish Imlach version. Give it a listen.

Elle me fait frémir cette chanson. Quelle pureté dans la voix!

I love the way Joan Baez sings this--one of the songs I love most in this world! I care very much for how Nina Simone sings it too. Fortunately, we can love both even as they are so different.

Nina Simone's version is beautiful but has more the style of a love song. This version by Joan was recorded in 1960 when she was just becoming known as a protest singer. She was on stage, live, with just her guitar. I've always loved this version because it was the first I'd heard it, but Joan's voice has a timeless, ageless mystery to it.

I fell in love with this song when in my twenties. Now in my sixties, nothing has changed - a timeless beauty sung by one of the best voices in the world.

It's totally different feeling from Joan Baez & Nina Simone's renditions , but both of them did a great job on it !!

Try Cara Dillon if you want to here a truly beautiful version of this Hamish Imlach classic. She sings with a Northern Irish lilt which I feel takes this song to a quite beautiful and haunting place.... Simply stunning.
