I wasn't prepared to be impressed, but damn this was nice. It doesn't have the stark beauty of Grant's. Instead, he made his own beauty with it.

I used to work on the 10:30 Slot. I remember when Jimmy walked into the studio he had a presence like no other I'd encountred. Gracious and quietly charasmatic, he was the epitome of cool. The atmosphere in the studio was electric. You can hear the audience explode at the end - that sound came from about 40 people, mostly teenagers who had no idea who he was. They just knew what they'd seen.

I wish I had the chance to have seen Jimmy live. He really made the song his own and am thankful we have his version to see and enjoy.

Not often is a cover better than the original. The Go Betweens must be very happy with this interpretation.

I can remember back to when he appeared on Bandstand singing Royal Telephone. A great man. Rest in peace, sir.
