I was a successful first grade public school teacher for 30 years. The ONE year I taught 2nd grade, students were required to locate places on maps and globes. I used this song as a teaching tool. First we learned a little circle island dance to get the jitters out. After the dance, we worked on saying the place names and a little about the places in the song. Then, finally we were ready to locate places in the song on maps and globes. Our culminating activity involved foods from some of the places in the song. One the best classroom experiences EVER!!!

An interesting fact on this song. Jimmy Buffett wrote it whilst sitting atop a dead volcano on an island. When he went down to the nearby recording studio the staff laughed and said "She dead man!" The name of the island-Montserrat. It was released in 1980. 15 later the Soufriere Hills Volcano DID erupt and is still active!

I have a friend living in Hawaii right now and there's a lava flow running almost through his back yard because of a recent eruption. He's had survivors out and they say the flow should not run through his house. I'm thinking "I don't know where I'm a gonna go when the volcano blows."
