I think this song has little to do with the town of Savanna. I think the song is much more metaphorical in nature. To me its about a stormy relationship. Rained so hard that I drown(tears) "Puff of wind can break the spell" (one little thing can turn into a fight) "While I waited for the storm to die down (big fight with wife/girlfriend). "Mixing fire and Ice together" (hot....cold....relationship).....etc. Would love to have the opportunity to discuss the meaning with Jimmy. Like to think I'm not that far off.

Well, let's just say that we liked both of his daughter' s names so much that we now have a Savanna Delaney and she is our little Miss Magic.

Agree, one of his best. Something strongly emotive about his voice.

You're correct, it's about Savannah, GA

Nope, written by Hugh Prestwood...it's about Savannah, GA not Bubba's daughter

FYI - I'm surprised how so many folks have this wrong. Hugh Prestwood (a friend) is the songwriter, and it is indeed about my home town Savannah, GA...not Savannah Jane I visited Hugh at his home in 2003 when he played the song (his original demo) for me from his board...I got choked up...Hugh burned me a CD of the demo Hugh had never been to Savannah when he wrote the song It took Hugh a week to teach Bubba the song The vocals were recorded in an Airstream trailer at East Hampton airport

Thank you MisterLewis! When I first read your comment "GA* ;)" I thought to myself, "What? What kind of reply is that and what does he mean?" Then I re-read my comment and BING!, the light went on. Yes, my geography is much better than one would think and yes Savannah is in Georgia. When I posted this comment about Savannah, the song, the city...whatever, for some reason I had Charleston on my mind. Not the one in West Virginia mind you, but the one in South Carolina. :-) Thank you!

When one says, Savannah, Christmas, Texas, or any other noun of your choosing, followed by fare you well, you are wishing the one to whom you are speaking that that noun you are using is kind to them. Savannah in this song could be the city in SC or the name of a hurricane and he's wishing that you fare well in the storm. Wikipedia sugguest that the song writer, Hugh Prestwood writes of a hurricane in which the songwriter is killed by the storm...missing sailor or driver on the road - you pick.

@doublec9697 Its Jimmy Buffett, it doesn't really need to be about anything. Many of his songs are best if you take your own meaning from them.

@doublec9697 The song is about whatever you want it to be. Life, death, love, leaving - of a person, place, or time. Looking backward while looking forward. With regrets, but no remorse. Enjoy the song, you can love it for the mood. May your own empirical understanding of the lyrics be on the far, far side of the moontime.
