Hi Everybody!

The definitive version of this song is the 1970 one from the Berkeley Community Theatre in California.

Emotional power in this music can't be matched by any other form of force or power in the whole universe. Proved by scientists who love Hendrix :D

While working in radio, I was unaware Eddie Kramer was calling us for an interview. Greg Martin from the Kentucky Headhunters came in after my shift, and had planned the whole thing. I get a call on the request line, this very british accent says "Um, 'ello, is Greg Maaahhtin there?"I replied "No, guv'nah, 'ee's not!" and hung up. Yeah. Five seconds later, Greg comes around the corner and says "Did Eddie Kramer call yet??" Immediately, the phone rings again. "Um, Mr. Kramer, so sorry, I'll get Greg right away. Love your work with Hendrix!"True story.

Any idea what album I could find this version on? For some reason this track eludes my collection…

Like the man said, Eddie is a fan. The contribution of this engineer to what we know and love as Jimi's music is hard to overstate, in my opinion. He 'got' Hendrix, and plays the mixer as well as Hendrix played the guitar. I just love these interviews.

I want to know what the other people that were in the studio with Kramer and Hendrix had to say about this recording. This guy has been known to "alter" Jimi's recordings and most of the people that could corroborate are dead. FLAME ON!

This is one of my favorite versions. In order of favorite versions (out of the dozens released over the years) of this song I'd give 1st place to the Berkeley performance, 2nd place to the Live at Fillmore East recording, and this is my third favorite. (Although maybe tied for second.) This is the shortest of those but also the most grounded and badass version.

I've always wanted to see the Berkeley live version of Hear My Train Acomin'. Part of it is on Jimi Plays Berkeley VHS tape. I first hear it off the Rainbow Bridge album back in the 70's. Blew my away.

These short interviews with Kramer talking about Jimi are fantastic. I wish they were longer! Guys like Eddie and George Martin must feel a mixture of joy and sadness when listening to Jimi and John Lennon respectively. They were witnesses to greatness that is no longer there.
